PITCH & CONDITION
Weather : The weather conditions for this test match in lucknow is clear and sunny with with temperatures in the high-20s in the afternoons.
Pitch : The pitch should favour the spinners as seen in the recently concluded T20 and ODI series. While the new ball bowlers should get some help early on, the pitch should provide ample turn and will be key in the context of the game.
Afghanistan : A couple of new names feature in the squad although the core should remain the same. Ibrahim Zadran should open the batting alongside Javed Ahmadi for this game. Qais Ahmad and Zahir Khan, who made their test debuts in the win against Bangladesh, have both linked up with the Afghanistan squad after playing in the T10 League in Abu Dhabi – missing the warm-up match as a result. Mohammad Nabi is not in the squad from that game, however – he too had been playing in the T10 League.
Afghanistan have grown exponentially in international cricket and it reflected in their win over Bangladesh. Rahmat Shah and Asghar Afghan form the core of their batting and they both did exceedingly well against the Tigers.
The dependable, Rahmat Shah will be key in the top order with the likes of Ashgar Afghan and Zazai following him.
Afghanistan Squad : Ibrahim Zadran, Ihsanullah Janat, Rahmat Shah, Asghar Afghan, Ikram Ali Khil(w), Nasir Jamal, Afsar Zazai, Rashid Khan(c), Qais Ahmad, Yamin Ahmadzai, Zahir Khan, Javed Ahmadi, Amir Hamza, Nijat Masood, Karim Janat
West Indies : As for the Windies, Jason Holder will lead the side which should feature Shai Hope and Roston Chase in it. While Kraigg Brathwaite and John Campbell are set to open the innings, Sunil Ambris or Shamarh Brooks will get the nod in the middle order.
Rakheem Cornwall had a decent debut series against India and will feature as the lead spinner with the Windies most likely to include Warrican as well. Jason Holder will be key with both bat and ball as he is set to take the new ball along with Kemar Roach.
West Indies have had a pretty successful tour so far and would like to extend it with a win in the upcoming match as well. They started off with remarkable wins in the One Day Internationals, but couldn’t continue their brilliant performances in the T20Is, which ironically happens to be the format they love the most.
West Indies Squad : Kraigg Brathwaite, John Campbell, Shai Hope(w), Shamarh Brooks, Roston Chase, Shimron Hetmyer, Jason Holder(c), Kemar Roach, Rahkeem Cornwall, Keemo Paul, Alzarri Joseph, Shane Dowrich, Sunil Ambris, Jomel Warrican
West Indies lost their last two test matches meanwhile Afghanistan have won their last two test matches.
Afghanistan have made a strong start to their test-match history and could earn a third consecutive win in the format.
