Match : NZ vs IND, 1st ODI
Tournament : India tour of New Zealand, 2020
Date : Wednesday, February 05, 2020
Time : 7:30 AM IST 2:00 AM GMT 3:00 PM LOCAL
Venue : Seddon Park, Hamilton
PITCH & CONDITION
Weather : Hamilton will be partly cloudy on Wednesday, but the humidity won’t be too high. Temperatures are likely to fluctuate between 18 and 23 degrees Celsius while humidity may not exceed 63% at any time during the game.
Pitch : The pitch at the Seddon Park is usually very good for batting. The pitch in the third T20I, which was played in Hamilton, helped the spinners a fair bit. Given the fact that there isn’t going to be too much of dew, batting first might be a good idea.
India : The way how team India started its way to this important tour of New Zealand was just outstanding. They had a whitewash over the host team in the T20 series as they won all five matches where they won two T20 matches in super over.
Virat Kohli will be leading the side in this series of three ODIs. Shikhar Dhawan continues to remain sidelined due to the shoulder injury, India might hand Prithvi Shaw an ODI debut in Shikhar Dhawan’s absence. Rohit Sharma’s calf injury in the fifth T20I at Mount Maunganui has ruled him out of the remainder of India’s tour of New Zealand. While KL Rahul is there in the squad and can open the innings, India would probably like to persist with him at no. 5 for a little while to see what he can offer in the middle order. Navdeep Saini could be picked ahead of Shardul Thakur while Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal will be fighting for one spot.
India Squad: Lokesh Rahul(w), Mayank Agarwal, Virat Kohli(c), Shreyas Iyer, Manish Pandey, Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, Navdeep Saini, Mohammed Shami, Yuzvendra Chahal, Jasprit Bumrah, Prithvi Shaw, Kuldeep Yadav, Rishabh Pant, Kedar Jadhav, Shardul Thakur
New Zealand : Colin Munro is not there in the ODI squad which means Tom Blundell will open the batting with Martin Guptill, while Tom Latham will keep wickets and bat at no. 5.
New Zealand will continue to be without their first-choice fast bowlers Trent Boult, Matt Henry and Lockie Ferguson as they have not yet recovered from their hand, thumb and calf injuries respectively. Given the fact that Tim Southee has not been in the greatest of forms recently, the Kiwis might go with the inexperienced duo of Hamish Bennett and Scott Kuggeleijn.
New Zealand Squad: Martin Guptill, Henry Nicholls, Ross Taylor, Tom Latham(w/c), Mark Chapman, James Neesham, Colin de Grandhomme, Mitchell Santner, Tim Southee, Hamish Bennett, Ish Sodhi, Tom Blundell, Kyle Jamieson, Scott Kuggeleijn
India are going into this ODI series as the favorites. The prediction is for India to win the match and take a 1-0 lead in the series.
